The iPhone 6 series are arguably one of the best designed devices around; down to the minimal camera bump. But, there is always that person who is not always after aesthetics and chooses to ruin the overall beauty of the device by attaching a super bulge to the back just to get the extra feature of a 360 camera with the Insta360 Nano.
Aesthetics aside, this device is pretty functional giving you the ability to shoot 360 videos directly from your iPhone without having to buy a dedicated 360-camera which is pricey I might add. The Insta360 Nano is basically a 360-camera and an extra lens for your device. It attaches via a lightening connector although it can also be used on it’s own but I don’t think that would be advice-able.
Design of the Insta360 Nano
The Insta 360 Nano is a small device that measure about 0.8 inches x 1.2 inches x 4.3 inches. As I mentioned earlier, it connects via the lightening port on the iPhone. But, it also comes with it’s own battery and a micro SD card slot because 360 videos take a whole lotta space and with limited storage on the iPhone, you don’t want to store them on the device. It is important to note that the Insta 360 Nano does not come with it’s own Micro SD card.
Recording
This small but effective device shoots in 3040 x 1520 resolution for still pictures and 3040 x 1520 at 30 fps for moving images through its 210-degree dual fisheye lenses. The cool part about this device is the fact that you can stream directly to another device via micro USB or directly to YouTube or Facebook.
Even if you do not have an iPhone, you can shoot directly with the Insta 360 Nano camera which you can either save or stream directly as I said earlier.
CONCLUSION
It really boils down to whether or not you really need a 360-camera. First off, it’s recordings are usually large; secondly, you can’t really appreciate the concept without getting a dedicated VR gear. Not to talk of the data charges that will ensue from streaming or downloading 360 videos. If you are not bothered by any of these, then by all means go ahead and get the Insta360 Nano. But, if any or all of the above points bother you, then you do not need this. Just stick to plain old photo and videography. This device goes for about $200 – $300 depending on where you buy from.
So, what do you think? Is the Insta 360 Nano a luxury, necessity or an unnecessary gimmick that ruins the near perfect aesthetics of the iPhone 6 series?
