Blackberry has been delving into touch devices of late and the newest member of the family is the Blackberry DTEK50. The device is a full touch; all android device whose major selling point is security – remember the priv?
Anyways, this device does not have a hardware keyboard; it’s just a traditional 5.2″ mobile device with a really nice screen and decent camera that bears some semblance to the Alcatel Idol 4 just with a different back case. See image below:

Although you might not believe this, but blackberry claims to secure the this device as far as the granular level. Well, it better be that good if you go around saying “this is the most secure phone in the world”. The security of this device is hinted in the name of the device; DTEK. The blackberry DTEK50 comes preinstalled with the DTEK app which is more or less a control panel that lets you view and assess the security access granted to all apps on a per app basis. Which in my opinion is more or less overkill. Why? Well, Marshmallow has this feature out of the box! Blackberry’s response to this was the fact that they replaced Marshmallow’s with theirs.
SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE
The software experience on the Blackberry DTEK 50 is very similar to that of the Priv which combined near-stock Android with proprietary blackberry software like the hub. This time around, the hub has been improved with things like pinch gestures.
Blackberry also promised that the DTEK50 will get updates faster than most of the other OEM devices out there. They claim updates can be as quick as the same day that Google releases them. Although this might be a good thing, it also has it’s downside: which is the fact that many updates, if not most are filled with bugs; so, well you have to take this with a pinch of salt.
CAMERA
We all know it is not really about the megapixels, so when you see a device with a 13MP shooter, you wait until you test it out yourself.
For now, we do not have the device in our hands yet considering the fact that the device has not been released officially.
