Even though the device was pretty solid and made competitors like Apple watch their backs and go back to the drawing board, things have gone quite sour because Samsung themselves have confirmed that their Note 7 batteries have the tendency to explode. Although not all devices are affected, current stats stand at 24 per million devices sold or a total of about 35 devices worldwide – at least those are the ones that have been reported.
Following this development, Samsung has decided to recall their devices and have even stopped sales in Korea.
WHY THE BATTERIES EXPLODE AND THE SOLUTION
From the reports, it seems this phenomenon only occurs when the Phablet is charging. And from all indications, this can be resolved by just changing batteries, according to a Samsung official.
The problem can be simply resolved by changing the battery, but we’ll come up with convincing measures for our consumers.
For those who have this device and are faced with this problem, you can return your unit for a simple battery replacement and your beast of a device should be good as new.
As I said earlier, this flaw does not affect ALL Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units, instead it’s accounts for just a small fraction.
Products installed with the problematic battery account for less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold.
Since their forecast is about 12 million units, that means about 12,000 units are prone to explode anytime, which if you ask me is not a safe gamble at all.
I would tell you not to be worried, but that would be hypocrisy as there is no sure way of knowing whether or not your unit is one of the 12,000 or so affected. So, just be safe, pay close attention to your phone while it is charging and if you notice any unusually high temperatures, I suggest you unplug the charger, stay as far away from it as possible and get a replacement battery.
Sad to say that this unfortunate event was also ill timed considering the fact that Samsung was just recovering from it’s loss in sales a little while back. I just hope this won’t hurt Samsung’s rep in the coming years or make people lose trust in them. But hey, who are we kidding, it most definitely will. The best they can do now is hope and pray that it doesn’t have too much of a dent – i.e control the damage.
