iPhone 7 rumored to lose the 3.5mm headphone jack

It has been whispered in hushed tones(like we don’t all gossip), that the iPhone 7 might not have the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack that we all are used to. You might think, ugh! how on God’s green earth do they plan to pull that off? Well, lemme take us all on a trip down memory lane…

Once, upon a time, the year was… Just kidding. But seriously though, Apple has a track record of imposing nearly impossible things on users in the pretext “You don’t know what you want till you see it!” – A particular Apple personnel. Need facts? I got you covered:

The Macintosh was the first Personal Computer to have an end-end control. Oh, for you non-techies, it’s a nice way to say, it was incompatible with the peripherals being manufactured at that time.

Then they went on to make the iPhone, which – oh, shocker! Was incompatible with the peripherals made at that time!(ours , I mean). Tell me your traditional Micro-USB would fit in an iPhone(any iPhone). That’s what I thought

Remember the mac book 2015, yeah, the super thin, super slick laptop from Apple which – no way! had just one USB port!

A sane human would say, how the hell do they plan to make profits, or even sales?! I hate to break it to you but they went on to sell 48 million iPhones and 5.7 million Macs last year(shocked? Don’t be. C’mon it’s Apple!). Source: Apple Insider

So by now I believe you see they can pull this off quite conveniently. But, hold on, lemme be the devil’s advocate for a minute here. There are pros to this, if they can pull it off… Which given their resume, I’m guessing they can. Just hear me out folks:

• First there would be more space for other chips if the 3.5mm jack was removed. Given Apple’s obsession for thinness, 3.5mm is a lot of space… a lot.
• The audio quality of a lightning cable connected headphone might be better than the traditional 3.5mm jack. You never know.
• They might be experimenting with wireless earphones.
• And of course, you had to know this was coming: More money for them! How? – From the sales of adapters.

Now back to being me, the cons to this:

• Your traditional 3.5mm headphones are rendered useless. Sorry Apple fanboys.
• But, they might let you keep and use them… Oh wait, you’d have to pay extra $50 for an adapter. How I know? That’s the price of nearly every Apple adapter!

On a closing note, it’s quite ironic that the company that revolutionized digital music as we know it today is the first to spit in the face of tradition. I got a feeling that this year’s gonna be a good year for tech! Come to think of it, which year isn’t?

Lest I forget, it is rumored to also be waterproof! 😀
