Evernote has been around for as long as I can remember and has became a name and brand to reckon with. When it comes to productivity; ranging from notes to whole documents, Evernote has you covered. But now, there’s a new kid on the block: Dropbox Paper.
You might think that pivoting into document editors might not have been the smartest move for a cloud storage company like Dropbox, but this app is so good that you might ask why they didn’t do this sooner. Although they have started, they have miles to go before they become real threats to the big players in the game.
FEATURES OF DROPBOX PAPER
- It gives you the ability to write documents on the go
- You could “mention” team members; something like Slack
- You could even code on it! Now, this is my favorite part. No, it does NOT compile your code if that was what you were thinking. It just recognizes code syntaxes
PROS AND CONS OF DROPBOX PAPER
First off, this app strips the interface down to just the essentials. Just like having distraction free mode enabled by default. Although this is the case, it is still as functional in every way as Evernote or even Google Docs.
The only real con I see is the fact that it is still in Beta mode. So, expect a few bugs here and there. Apart from that, it is a pretty solid app and with a little tuning up here and there, and fast forward a couple of years, you might be faced with the hard decision of choosing the cloud text editor to use: Evernote, Google Docs or Dropbox Paper.
In my opinion, they still have a long way to go though. Take a look at something like Google Docs; their success is owed hugely to the fact that it is incorporated into the Google ecosystem – and they have an enormous user base. Practically almost everyone that has an android device has a Google account and in essence can use Google Docs. Try beating those stats!
Even if Dropbox paper has features like multi-sharing and editing available, it will take a while before they can get a large enough user base to pose a serious threat.
On the flip side, they have a promising start and I am more than eager to see what will become of Dropbox Paper.
